The Indian team is playing the ODI series in England under the captaincy of Shubman Gill. Next year, Team India will also participate in the ODI World Cup 2027 under the captaincy of Gill. But a cricketer who played with Gill is embroiled in controversies because he has been arrested in a major case. Former Indian Under-19 team batsman Manjot Kalra has been arrested in Sri Lanka. Kalra has been arrested in Sri Lanka for bribing a player.

According to the information, Manjot Kalra, co-owner of Lanka Premier League (LPL) franchise Jaffna Kings, was arrested from a hotel in Colombo on Friday, July 17. The Sports Investigation Unit of Sri Lanka Police has arrested former Indian Under-19 cricketer Kalra just before the start of the new season of LPL. Police Inspector Supun Vidanage told that Kalra was preparing to give about 95 lakh Sri Lankan rupees i.e. about Rs 27.7 lakh to a player.

According to the information received from the police, the player who was accused of trying to bribe Kalra had informed about this about 10 days ago. Then the owner of Jaffna Kings contacted this player for the first time. Only after this the police planned to arrest Kalra. According to the police, the accused had also contacted two other players. However, the identity of any player has not been revealed. The police have also said that the accused will now be presented before the magistrate.

Delhi cricketer Manojat Kalra was part of the Indian team that won the Under-19 World Cup in 2018. Prithvi Shaw was the captain of this team, while Shubman Gill was also an important part of this team. It was Kalra who made India the champion by scoring a brilliant century against Australia in the final. But after just one year, he got caught in ‘age fraud’. After this, in 2020, Delhi Cricket banned him for a few years. Although Kalra’s ban was later lifted, he never returned to professional cricket after that. In May 2026 itself, Kalra had bought some stake in Jaffna Kings and became the co-owner of the franchise.
