Rohit Sharma will have five significant milestones within reach when India take on New Zealand in the five-match ODI series, beginning November 4, 2026. The experienced opener returns to the 50-over format alongside Virat Kohli, with both veterans expected to play important roles in India’s preparations for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.
Rohit, who has established himself as one of India’s greatest white-ball batters, enters the series with 12,120 ODI runs and 381 sixes. His performances in New Zealand could see him add several remarkable achievements to his international career.
1. 21,000 International Runs
Rohit has accumulated 20,652 runs across formats and needs another 348 to reach the 21,000-run landmark. He would become only the fourth Indian batter after Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Rahul Dravid to achieve the feat.
2. 5,000 International Runs in SENA Countries
The second milestone involves scoring 5,000 international runs as an opener in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia). Rohit currently has 4,964 runs and requires just 36 more to become the first Indian opener to reach the mark.
3. First Batter to Score 400 ODI Sixes
The third and perhaps most exciting milestone is 400 ODI sixes. Rohit has already struck 381 sixes in the format and needs another 19 to become the first batter in men’s ODI history to reach the landmark.
4. 15,000 International Runs in Winning Causes
Rohit is also closing in on 15,000 international runs in winning causes. With 14,817 runs in victories, another 183 would make him the fourth batter after Ricky Ponting, Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar to achieve the feat.
5. ODI Centuries in All Four SENA Countries
The fifth milestone is an ODI century in New Zealand. Rohit has scored 437 runs in 14 ODIs in the country, including four half-centuries, but is yet to register a hundred there. A century would make him the fourth Indian after Tendulkar, Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan to score ODI hundreds in all four SENA countries.
With multiple records within reach, the New Zealand series offers Rohit another opportunity to strengthen his remarkable ODI legacy ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
