According to the latest forecast of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), on May 24, 2026, many cities of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh will be affected by severe heat wave. In many areas the temperature can reach 45 to 47 degrees Celsius. On the other hand, the possibility of thunderstorms and strong winds has also been expressed in some parts of Jharkhand and eastern areas of Bihar. The maximum heat will be seen in some cities of UP, Bundelkhand and Madhya Pradesh. The temperature in the capital Delhi is expected to be 44 °C today.

On May 24, the highest temperature is expected to reach 47°C in many cities of Uttar Pradesh – Jhansi, Prayagraj, Banda, Banaras, Mirzapur, Achnera and Auraiya. The mercury may also rise up to 46°C in Daudnagar, Sasaram of Bihar and Garhwa of Jharkhand. This temperature is several degrees higher than normal and can increase the risk of heat stroke.

There will be severe heat wave in most of the districts of Uttar Pradesh today. Orange alert of heat wave is prevailing in cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Jhansi, Agra, Meerut, Aligarh, Banaras and Banda. There will be relative relief in Patna, Bihar where the maximum temperature is expected to be 38°C. However, the heat will be very intense in Arrah, Sasaram and Daudnagar. Yellow alert for thunder, lightning and strong winds at the speed of 40-50 km per hour is in effect in Ranchi and Simdega-Bano area of Jharkhand. The temperature here will be between 39-41°C but humidity will increase the problem.

Bhopal, Indore and Ujjain will be affected by strong sunlight and dry heat. The temperature in Bhopal may go up to 42°C while it is expected to reach 47°C in the coming days. Even in Indore and Ujjain, it can be difficult to go out during the afternoon.
