Rashid Khan declined India Citizenship: Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan has made a big claim. He has said that he had received an offer to play cricket from India. He was also being offered Indian citizenship to play for Team India. But, he rejected that offer. Not only this, in his claim, Rashid Khan took the name of another country which, like India, had offered him citizenship. But if Rashid Khan is to be believed, he chose his country over those offers. He gave priority to playing cricket for Afghanistan.
Rashid Khan’s big claim in his book
The 27-year-old Afghanistan star spinner has revealed these things in his upcoming book – Rashid Khan: From Road to Stardom. In this book he has told that he was offered citizenship of India as well as Australia. Both the countries had also offered him to play for them.
India-Australia had offered citizenship
According to Afghanistan’s star cricketer, he had received offers of citizenship and playing time from both India and Australia. But he rejected the offer saying that if he cannot play for his country then he cannot play for any other country.
Rashid Khan told this story in the book
In his words in the book, Rashid did not talk in much detail about the Australian offer. But he has discussed in detail about the Indian offer. He told that he got the offer of Indian citizenship and playing from there when he was a part of Gujarat Titans in IPL. A GT official came to him and told him that “a senior BCCI official” wanted to meet him.
Rashid further told that he went to meet him. Started talking. He told them that if the situation in Afghanistan is not good then they should come and settle in India. We will provide you Indian documents. Stay here and play cricket. According to Rashid, at first he was shocked to hear what the officer said, then he replied smiling. Rashid said- Thanks for your offer but I am playing for my country Afghanistan.
