After the massive landslide on Yamunotri Highway in Uttarkashi, DM took stock of the spot. He has directed the officials to create alternative routes on a war footing to restore traffic and to complete the under construction bridge at Syanachatti within a week.

Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand) [भारत]July 11 (ANI): Uttarkashi District Magistrate (DM) Prashant Arya on Saturday inspected the site of massive landslide near Syanachatti on Yamunotri National Highway. He reviewed the ongoing repair and restoration work following incessant rains in the district.

During the inspection, the DM directed the officials of the concerned departments to create an alternative route on war footing to restore traffic on the National Highway as soon as possible. He also asked to ensure that all necessary resources and machinery are made available at the spot without any delay.

Arya directed the Executive Engineer of the National Highway Authority to complete the construction of the bridge over the Yamuna River at Syanachatti within a week to improve connectivity in the affected area.

Safety of Char Dham pilgrims and local people is priority

The District Magistrate said that the safety of Char Dham pilgrims and local residents is the top priority of the administration. He directed the officials to carry out the relief, rescue and restoration work with sensitivity and promptness.

During the inspection, Arya directed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Barkot) to strengthen and streamline the transshipment system and make it more secure and efficient. He also directed the officials to put in place security measures like ropes and solar lights at sensitive places on the alternative walking routes to ensure safe movement of passengers.

Instructions to accelerate channelization of Yamuna river

The DM also inspected the channelization work of Yamuna river being carried out by the Irrigation Department and directed the officials to expedite the process to ensure smooth flow of water. He further directed that the work of removing the debris obstructing the flow of the river in Garhgadh area should be expedited and cleared immediately.

The Irrigation Department was directed to deploy additional machinery for channelization work to maintain normal flow of the river and minimize potential hazards.

Arya reiterated that the district administration is closely monitoring the situation and relief measures, security arrangements and restoration of traffic connectivity in the affected area are being taken up on priority basis. (ANI)
