Why is this heatwave becoming dangerous?
This time the biggest reason for the heat is the continuously clear sky, low humidity and the influence of western winds. When the sun falls directly on the ground throughout the day and there is less moisture in the air, the temperature rises rapidly and does not drop much even at night. Due to this, the body does not get relief both during the day and night, due to which heat stress increases.
Weather trend for the next 5 days: No relief and problems will increase
According to IMD, the situation may become more serious in the coming days. The temperature in Raipur may reach 45°C by April 27 and the heatwave will continue. The temperature in Prayagraj and surrounding areas can go up to 46°C on 24-25 April, which is considered the most dangerous level of this season. The effect of heat wave will continue in New Delhi and NCR till April 24, although light clouds may provide relief later. Heatwave is likely to start in Indore and Bhopal from April 27. Western parts of Rajasthan, especially Jaisalmer, will be affected by heat with strong winds and dust storms.
Why is heatwave alert serious for people?
When the temperature reaches between 44-46°C, the body’s cooling system i.e. sweating also reduces its functioning. This increases the risk of heat stroke, especially for children, the elderly and those working outside. Going out from 12 noon to 4 pm is considered to be the most dangerous time.
Will the heat increase further?
Meteorologists believe that this heatwave is moving towards its peak before May, which is an unusual sign. Usually such intense heat is seen in May-June, but this time records have started breaking in April itself. This simply means that the times to come may be even more challenging.
