Haj 2026 update: Flights fare increased, rules also changed – know the last date for depositing money

Hajj 2026 Airfare Update: Big change in Hajj 2026! Additional burden of Rs 10,000 on pilgrims due to increase in air fare, last date is 15th May. Middle East tensions, rising ATF prices and demand from airlines changed the situation. Will the expenses increase further?

Hajj Travel Cost Increase India: A new financial burden has emerged for Indian pilgrims preparing for Haj 2026. After the revision in airfare, now every passenger will have to pay approximately $ 100 (about Rs 10,000) extra. After this decision, an atmosphere of anxiety and confusion has been created among thousands of applicants, because the last date for payment has been fixed as May 15, 2026. This change comes at a time when the ongoing situation in the Middle East region and the increase in aviation fuel (ATF) prices have affected the cost of air operations.

Balance of airlines’ demand and government

According to sources, the airlines had demanded an increase of more than $400 for Hajj flights. They argued that the current fare structure is no longer viable due to rising fuel prices and operating costs. However, the Ministry of Minority Affairs approved a limited increase instead of accepting the entire demand. The government’s objective was to ensure that flight operations continue and there is no excessive financial pressure on the pilgrims.

Last date nearing – are you ready?

The Haj Committee of India has issued clear instructions to all the selected pilgrims to deposit the additional amount by May 15, 2026. This payment is considered mandatory for the final confirmation of the journey. According to the officials, delay in payment may affect the Yatra process, hence timely action is very important.

Methods of payment and necessary conditions

  • Pilgrims can deposit this amount through several means –
  • Online payment through the official Haj website
  • Digital transaction through ‘Haj Suvidha App’
  • State Bank of India Offline payment at (SBI) and Union Bank of India branches

Every passenger will have to mandatorily enter the Bank Reference Number linked to his ‘cover’, without which the payment will not be valid.

What can change the picture going forward?

Officials have indicated that the situation in the coming times will depend on fuel prices and international conditions. If there is further change in the cost, the fee structure for Haj pilgrimage is likely to be revised again. At present, the biggest challenge faced by the pilgrims is timely payment and finalizing the preparations for the journey.
