8th Pay Commission latest: The Eighth Pay Commission constituted for central employees has come into action mode. The Pay Commission is holding a meeting on a regular basis. In this series, a meeting of the Pay Commission was held with the members of Maharashtra Old Pension Organization in Pune.

What is the demand?

Maharashtra Old Pension Organization demanded a minimum basic salary of Rs 65,000 and fitment factor of 3.8 for all central government employees under the 8th Pay Commission. They also had several other demands, including a guaranteed increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) by at least 4%, increasing the limits of House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Travel Allowance (TA). Apart from this, promotion and giving benefits of Pay Commission to those included in the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) are also included.

Demand for change in the definition of family unit: Since the number of family units is an important issue in the Pay Commission while determining the minimum pay and fitment factor for employees. Therefore, the Maharashtra pension body has demanded in the 8th Pay Commission report to include parents in the existing family unit count and increase this number from the existing 3 to 5 members.

Demand for minimum salary of ₹65000

There has been a demand to increase the existing starting basic pay from ₹18,000 to ₹65,000. The old pension body says it has recommended minimum wages based on the ‘Ackroyd formula’ and an actual family unit. Maharashtra Pension Institution has also demanded to increase the fitment factor. Under the 7th Pay Commission, there is a demand to increase it from 2.57 to 3.8. A minimum increase of 4% has been demanded in every DA revision and DA has been automatically merged with the basic pay at 50%.

-Maharashtra Pension Society has also demanded to end the system of linking HRA with DA and increase the existing HRA rates (10%, 20% and 30%) for X, Y and Z category cities to 12%, 24% and 36% respectively. Apart from this, there has been a demand for increase in Traveling Allowance (TA).

-There has been a demand to increase the annual increment from 3% to 5%. At the same time, Maharashtra Pension Organization has demanded to implement the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for about 85 lakh employees covered under the National Pension System (NPS) across the country. For NPS, the organization says that the government should provide a guaranteed return of at least 10% and the employer’s contribution should be increased to 18.5%.
