bank employee
There is news of relief for bank employees. The government has increased the Dearness Allowance (DA) from May 1, 2026. The new DA will be applicable for the quarter May to July 2026. Although this time the increase is not very big, but it will definitely have a direct impact on the monthly salary of the employees.
DA increased from 25% to 25.70%
This time DA has been increased from 25% to 25.70%, i.e. there has been a total increase of 0.70%. This increase has been decided on the basis of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of the first quarter of 2026. Since DA is calculated on the basic salary, even a slight change in it makes a difference in the salary.
How much will be the impact on salary?
Due to increase in DA, the in-hand salary of employees will increase by a few hundred to around ₹ 1,000, depending on their basic salary and scale.
Stage 10 (Scale I):
Basic ₹67,160 → increase of about ₹600/month
Stage 15 (Scale I):
Basic ₹80,560 → increase of about ₹719/month
Stage 30 (Scale II-III):
Basic ₹69,840 → increase of about ₹633/month
Stage 47 (Scale II-III):
Basic ₹1,17,200 → Increase of around ₹1,058/month
That is, as the salary increases, the benefit of DA also increases.
Why is this increase important?
Although the increase of 0.70% may seem small, but it provides relief to the employees in times of inflation. Regular DA revision keeps the salary balanced with inflation.
Comparison with central government employees
Recently, the Central Government had increased the DA of its employees from 58% to 60%, i.e. an increase of 2%. In comparison, the DA increase of bank employees is less, but it is decided according to the different formula of the industry.
What to expect next?
DA is decided every quarter on the basis of CPI, hence further changes may be seen in it in the coming months depending on the inflation data. Overall, this time bank employees will get a small but necessary boost in salary. Even if the amount is not huge, regular DA increases provide good relief in the long run.
