The amusing memory resurfaced in an episode of Farah’s YouTube food vlog featuring veteran actor Rakesh Bedi, who is currently riding a wave of renewed popularity after the success of Dhurandhar: The Revenge. Read about it below!
Farah Khan shares memories from Bollywood’s early days
Welcoming Rakesh Bedi on the vlog, Farah jokingly introduced him as “Dhurandhar ka main hero (the main hero of Dhurandhar)” before reflecting on their long-standing friendship.
She recalled that the actors would regularly visit the home of Javed Akhtar and his then-wife Honey Irani while studying at the Film and Television Institute of India. “FTII se yeh log roz aate the Javed uncle aur Honey aunty ke ghar free ka khaana aur free ki daaru peene, aate the vahan par toh we used to meet all of them (They used to come every day from FTII to Javed uncle and Honey aunty’s house for free food and free drinks, and that’s where we would meet all of them),” she said.
The filmmaker added, “He used to come with Farooq Shaikh, Satish Shah, Neena Gupta and Supriya Pathak. Humari puraani dosti hai (We are old friends), but we are meeting after a very long time.”
At the time, Farah was only 15 years old, while Rakesh was around 25 and studying acting at FTII.

Rakesh Bedi in Dhurandhar franchise
The vlog also touched upon Rakesh Bedi’s recent work in the Dhurandhar franchise, led by Ranveer Singh. The actor has received praise for playing Jameel Jamali in the spy thriller. In the original film, Jamali appears as the father of Sara Arjun’s character. However, the sequel dramatically expands the role, revealing him to be an Indian spy embedded deep inside Pakistan.
Set in early 2000s Pakistan, the franchise follows an undercover Indian agent navigating the dangerous underworld of Lyari while attempting to dismantle terror networks. The sequel also dives deeper into the backstory of Ranveer Singh’s character, Hamza Ali Mazari, also known as Jaskirat Singh Rangi.
