In view of the increasing crowd during the season, Indian Railways has announced to run more than 18,200 special train trips for the summer season. According to ‘The Indian Express’, the Railway Ministry has approved a total of 908 special trains to provide passengers with a hassle-free travel experience during the peak months of April, May and June. These trains have been divided into different zones in such a way that the huge crowd of passengers going on holidays and migrant laborers returning home can be easily handled.
According to the official schedule, these trains have started from April 15 and will run between July 15, 2026. According to the report, a major part of these services, especially 660 trains, will make more than 11,000 trips. This will give passengers time for advance reservation to plan their journey better.
According to reports, South Central Railway (SCR) is at the forefront of this increase, which will run the maximum number of 124 different special trains. However, in terms of total trips, Central Railway leads with 3,082 trips; After this comes East Central Railway, which will make 2,711 trips. Western Railway and Northern Railway are also making important contribution in this, which will make 2,078 and 2,090 trips. These trains will connect big metros like Mumbai and Delhi with high demand destinations like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal.
Along with the increase in the number of trains, the ministry has directed zonal railways to make proper arrangements for drinking water at stations and deploy additional RPF personnel to control crowding on platforms. Senior officials will continuously monitor waitlist data to identify routes where demand consistently exceeds capacity. With this, if needed, it can be announced to run more “clone trains” or additional coaches.
As summer progresses, Railways aims to curb the problem of ticketless travel and ensure that every passenger gets a confirmed seat. Passengers are advised to use the IRCTC website and official mobile app to check the updated schedule, as many special trains run only on certain days of the week to handle the weekend rush.
