Over 400 fall ill due to food poisoning after attending wedding function in Gujarat

New Delhi: More than 400 people fell ill due to suspected food poisoning after they allegedly had food at a wedding function at a village in Gujarat’s Dahod district. Several people were admitted to the hospital after their health deteriorated. Authorities have launched an urgent investigation and put the health team on alert.

The incident took place in Abhlod village, where several guests attended a wedding ceremony. The attendees started complaining of vomiting, nausea, stomach ache, and dizziness after consuming food at the function, according to officials.

Upon receiving information about it, local health authorities sent medical teams to the village, and several guests were taken to nearby hospitals and primary health centres. While the guests are currently in a stable condition, the number of affected people has raised serious public health concerns.

Meanwhile, health officials in the district have been instructed to monitor the situation closely. A detailed probe has also been launched to ascertain what led to the food contamination. Food samples from the wedding function have also been sent to the laboratory for examination.

Authorities are also examining whether food safety and hygiene standards were followed during the preparation and serving of food at the function.

The incident comes amid rising concerns over food safety and hygiene at large gatherings, especially during the summer months, when food gets spoiled easily due to high temperatures and humidity that contribute to bacterial growth
