Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [भारत]July 6 (ANI): Kuwait-based Zabedi Al Kuwait Fisheries Company and Indore-based Kamdar Care on Monday signed an investment and buyback agreement worth Rs 7,430 crore under the Madhya Pradesh Integrated Fisheries Industry Policy-2026. This agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav at the Chief Minister’s Residence Office in Bhopal. The project is expected to generate 35,000 job opportunities and provide a significant boost to the fisheries sector of the state.
According to an official release, the project involves development of backward and forward linkage infrastructure including cage culture facilities in Indira Sagar, Bargi, Bansagar and Barna reservoirs. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said the initiative will strengthen the fisheries sector and improve the livelihood of the fishermen community, while also contributing to the income of farmers under the state’s ‘Krishak Kalyan Varsh’ initiative.
Government committed to the welfare of fishermen: CM
The CM said, “The state government is fully committed to ensuring the prosperity of farmers. Along with agriculture, the fisheries sector is emerging as a major means of enhancing their income. A large section of the fishermen community of Madhya Pradesh is dependent on fisheries for their livelihood. To improve their socio-economic well-being, activities under the Madhya Pradesh Integrated Fisheries Industry Policy-2026 are being expanded to the international level. This agreement is aimed at promoting fisheries development and welfare of the fishermen community. It will usher in a new era.”
Immense possibilities of fisheries in MP
Highlighting the potential of the state, CM Yadav said Madhya Pradesh has abundant water resources that can support large-scale fisheries development, thereby meeting domestic food requirements as well as promoting exports. Describing Kuwait as a friendly nation, the Chief Minister said that the state government is working with full commitment and speed to convert foreign investment proposals into reality, and its positive results are now increasingly visible. He expressed confidence that in the coming years Madhya Pradesh will establish a distinct identity in the fisheries sector.
What will change with the agreement?
During the signing ceremony, it was informed that the Madhya Pradesh Integrated Fisheries Industry Policy-2026 aims to attract private and foreign investment to develop a modern, export-oriented, value-added fisheries industry in the state. Under the agreement, an estimated investment of Rs 7,430 crore will be made to develop backward and forward linkage infrastructure including cage culture facilities in Indira Sagar, Bargi, Bansagar and Barna reservoirs.
The project is expected to produce additional 400,000 tonnes of fish through cage culture. In addition, 123,000 tonnes of vegetables will be produced through aquaponics, hydroponics and greenhouse farming. This initiative is expected to generate 15,000 direct and 20,000 indirect employment opportunities. The state has set a target of fish exports worth about Rs 6,000 crore.
