The upcoming FIFA World Cup will be the biggest ever with 48 teams. The total prize money is ₹6,238 crore, of which the winner will get ₹417.5 crore. A total of 104 matches will be played in Canada, Mexico and America.
Zurich: The biggest football extravaganza, the World Cup, is going to be bigger and more explosive than ever this time. This time the number of teams has increased from 36 to 48. And as the teams have grown, the prize money has also skyrocketed. This time FIFA has showered money on the teams in a way that has never happened till date. Overall, prize money worth Rs 6,238.42 crore will be distributed.
If the amount given to the teams for preparation and other expenses is also included, the total expenditure of FIFA will be more than Rs 7,400 crore. The team that wins the World Cup will get around Rs 417.50 crore as reward. This is Rs 76 crore more than the amount received by last time champion Argentina. The runner-up i.e. the second placed team will get about Rs 288 crore. At the same time, the third placed team will be given Rs 254.675 crore and the fourth placed team will be given Rs 237 crore.
Not only this, the teams that reach the quarter finals and pre-quarter finals will also earn a good amount. Every team participating in the World Cup will get at least Rs 87.5 crore. This amount is in addition to the money received for preparation. This time the World Cup is being held in Canada, Mexico and America, in which a total of 104 matches will be played. Due to increase in the number of matches and sponsorship from three countries, FIFA’s earnings have also increased, hence there has been a bumper increase in the rewards given to the teams.
Now the question is whether this money goes directly to the players? So the answer is- no. FIFA does not send this amount directly to the players’ accounts. This money is given to the football association or federation of every country. Then that federation uses this amount for things like giving bonuses to players, salary of coaching staff, meeting travel expenses and promoting football in their country.
