After receiving a direct warning from the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) to start a nationwide movement again, the governments of Assam and Bihar have taken a big decision. Both the states have announced to withdraw all the criminal cases and FIRs registered against the protesting students, organizers and supporters in the NEET (UG) paper leak case.
Assam Home Department on Monday clarified that all the 5 cases registered during the protests against irregularities in the NEET exam will be withdrawn as per the law. Also, the process of release of 13 arrested people has been started.
Relief to more than 600 detained people in Bihar
Similarly, the Home Department of the Government of Bihar announced that no punitive or retaliatory action would be taken against any student or citizen involved in the protest before July 26. During the ‘Bihar Bandh’ called by student organizations on July 25, the police had detained 694 people. Of these, 339 minors had already been released, while cases were registered against 355 people. Now the government has canceled all the FIRs, show cause notices and registered cases and has ordered the immediate release of the arrested people.
Warning of further agitation if written assurance is not received
Meanwhile, let us tell you that CJP’s national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said that before ending the 36-day long agitation at Jantar Mantar, in the talks held with the government on July 25, it was agreed to withdraw the cases. Ranka said that we are waiting for written assurance from the government till Tuesday. If the agreement is not respected, the arrested protesters are not released and the demand of not registering cases against students in future is not accepted, then CJP will be forced to take to the streets again.
