Enemies will be shocked in war, BDL has prepared smart strike indigenous torpedo, big increase in the strength of Navy.

BDL prepared smart strike

In a major boost to India’s defense capabilities, Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has developed a state-of-the-art, long-range wire-guided heavyweight torpedo for the Indian Navy. This is the country’s first ‘production-grade wire guided heavy weight’ indigenous torpedo, which has now been officially handed over to the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL).

Torpedo is an underwater weapon, which is used to target enemy ships and submarines. This new ‘Heavyweight Torpedo’ is larger in size, more powerful and capable of striking at longer ranges. The most important thing is that it is equipped with a wire-guided system, which means that even after launch, the operator can control it and change its direction if needed.

completely indigenous system

This torpedo has been completely designed and developed in India. It was designed by NSTL Lab of Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), while it was manufactured by BDL. This is not just a prototype, but a fully ready-to-use production-grade system, which can be used in both training and combat situations.

How does it work?

  • Many modern technologies have been given in this torpedo:
  • Fiber-optic wire guidance – control possible even after launch
  • Active and passive acoustic homing to track and detect enemy sounds.
  • Re-attack ability: Attacks again if the first target is missed.
  • Autonomous mode: Attacks the target itself if the wire breaks.
  • This torpedo continuously tracks the target and has the ability to repeat the attack if needed.

How will the Navy benefit?

With this new system, the anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capability of the Indian Navy will be greatly strengthened. It will play an important role in finding and destroying enemy submarines. Along with this, it can also target the ships present on the surface, which will further increase India’s firepower in the sea.

name can be takshak

Although the official name has not been revealed, but according to sources this torpedo could be Takshak Torpedo.

Its possible features:

  • Range: about 40 km
  • Speed: About 40 knots (70-75 km/h)
  • Depth: more than 400 meters
  • Electric Propulsion Low Noise, High Stealth
  • ‘Swim-out’ launch without noise entering the water

How different from the earlier system?

India has already made torpedoes like Varunastra Torpedo, but they are launched from ships. The new system has been specifically designed to be launched from submarines and has greater stealth and advanced control capabilities.

Private sector also benefits

Many MSMEs and private companies have also participated in this project. This is strengthening India’s defense industrial structure and promoting ‘self-reliant India’. This new indigenous torpedo can prove to be a game changer for the Indian Navy. Especially in the Indian Ocean region, where submarine activities are increasing, this system will give a strategic edge to India.
