Pop stars Elton John and Dua Lipa are marking five years of their hit collaboration Cold Heart, which has amassed 5.3 billion streams.
The two artists shared a joint social media post featuring a series of photographs of them together to commemorate the milestone.
“Five years since Cold Heart brought us together, 5.3 billion streams later, and five years of a wonderful friendship. Thank you to all of you for continuing to love and support the track,” they wrote in the caption.
Cold Heart (Pnau Remix) was released in August 2021 as the lead single from the project, becoming a major collaboration between the British music icon and the younger pop star.
The track was created during the Covid-19 pandemic and followed the friendship that John and Dua had developed after first meeting in November 2020.
Produced by Australian dance group Pnau, the song combines elements of four earlier compositions associated with Elton John and lyricist Bernie Taupin, alongside contributions from Andrew Meecham, Dean Meredith, Nicholas Littlemore, Peter Mayes and Sam Littlemore. The latter three members of Pnau completed the production.
John, 79, is among the world’s best-selling music artists, having sold more than 300 million records globally. Known for his flamboyant style, showmanship and long-running songwriting partnership with Taupin, he has won five Grammy Awards, two Academy Awards, a Primetime Emmy, a Tony Award and two Golden Globe Awards, among other honours.
He has also received a Laurence Olivier Award and the Kennedy Center Honors. John has scored nine No. 1 singles on both the UK Singles Chart and the US Billboard Hot 100, while seven consecutive albums reached No. 1 on the US Billboard 200.
He is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a fellow of The Ivors Academy. He was knighted in 1998 for services to music and charity and was appointed a member of the Order of the Companions of Honour in 2020.
Dua Lipa, meanwhile, has won seven Brit Awards and three Grammy Awards. Her self-titled debut album, released in 2017, peaked at No. 3 on the UK Albums Chart and produced hits including Be the One, IDGAF and the UK No. 1 New Rules.
She won the Brit Awards for British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act in 2018. Her collaboration with Calvin Harris, One Kiss, became the UK’s best-selling song of 2018 and won the Brit Award for Song of the Year.
In 2019, Dua won Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and Best Dance Recording for Electricity, her collaboration with Silk City.
