A pregnant woman was brutalized for dowry in Kalyan. Her husband and in-laws beat her, starved her and forcibly shaved her head. The victim is admitted in the hospital. Police have arrested 4 people including the husband in this case.
Mumbai: A heart-wrenching case has come to light from Kalyan in Maharashtra. Here, a pregnant woman, her husband and in-laws crossed all limits of cruelty for dowry. The woman alleges that she was kept hungry for months, beaten and even her head was forcefully shaved. The woman has been admitted to the hospital in critical condition. Police have arrested four accused including the husband in this case.
According to the information, Afsana Ansari, resident of Ulhasnagar, was married to Sameer Ansari last year. Afsana’s family had told the boy’s family before the marriage that their financial condition was not good, hence they would not be able to give dowry. But after a few days of marriage, her in-laws started demanding money and valuables and started harassing Afsana.
Afsana has stated in her complaint that even when she was pregnant, her husband and in-laws used to beat her mercilessly. He was not even given enough food and did not get money even for daily expenses. The limit was reached when boiling water was poured on his hands and he was burnt.
On June 7, the husband, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and husband’s aunt forcibly shaved Afsana’s head on the pretext of having lice in her head. He said that the baby would have difficulty breathing because of the hair. Afsana suffered a mental breakdown after shaving her head. Even after this, he was kept locked in the room for a week and harassed.
Somehow Afsana ran away from her in-laws’ house and reached her sister’s house and then told the whole story to her brother. After this the family members admitted him to the hospital and lodged a complaint with the police. The police reached the hospital and took the statement of the woman. In this case, 4 people including husband Sameer Ansari, mother-in-law and sister-in-law have been arrested. The police have intensified the investigation by registering a case under different sections of the Indian Justice Code. The victim’s family has demanded strict action from the Maharashtra government against the culprits.
