Indian judo player Arun Kumar has been thrown out of the tournament after failing a doping test. Arun was to play for India in the men’s 73 kg category. This action was taken after banned drugs were found in his sample in a test conducted just before the start of the Games.
The International Judo Federation took this tough decision based on the report of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). This information has been given to the organizers and the Indian Olympic Association. Along with this, Arun’s name has also been removed from the official entry system of the Commonwealth Games. The International Judo Federation has confirmed that Arun Kumar is ineligible to participate in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Alice Anderson, representative of the Games Organizing Committee, has also made it clear that on this basis the player has been completely excluded from the competitions.
Arun Kumar was one of those players from whom India had the highest hopes of a medal in Judo. It is not possible to send any other player in his place in such a short time, due to which the blow to India has become even bigger. Arun has been given 15 days to present his side. However, according to the current anti-doping rules, he will not be able to participate in these games. Judo Federation of India president Mukesh Kumar said, “We had a lot of expectations from Arun. What happened is very unfortunate.”
