Does Rahul Gandhi have dual citizenship? Allahabad High Court orders FIR. Rahul Gandhi Dual Citizenship Case Fir Allahabad High Court

Rahul Gandhi Dual Citizenship Case: Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court has ordered to register FIR against Rahul Gandhi in dual citizenship case. Rae Bareli Police has been instructed to investigate, due to which the matter has now become more serious.

Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi got a big blow from Allahabad High Court on Friday. The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has ordered to register an FIR against him on charges of dual citizenship. After this decision, the stir in politics has once again intensified and this matter has now become important at both legal and political level.

What is the whole matter?

Rahul Gandhi is accused of holding British citizenship and also voting in Britain. On the basis of these allegations the petitioner had approached the court. While hearing this case, Justice Subhash Vidyarthi overturned the earlier decision of the lower court. The lower court had earlier refused to register the FIR, but now the High Court has given a clear order and asked the Rae Bareli police station to register an FIR and start investigation.

Home Ministry kept documents in the court

During the hearing, the Foreigners Division of the Home Ministry was directed to present all the documents related to the case. The ministry submitted the relevant files before the court. Petitioner Vignesh Shishir also presented several documents and evidence, in which it was claimed that Rahul Gandhi’s name is registered in the voter records of Britain and he has also voted there.

Overturned the lower court’s decision

This matter had earlier gone to the Special MP-MLA Court, where the demand for registering an FIR on January 28, 2026 was rejected. A criminal petition was filed in the High Court challenging this order. Now the High Court has reversed that decision and directed to register an FIR, which has further increased the seriousness of the case.

Instructions to state or central agency for investigation

The court has also directed the Uttar Pradesh government to investigate the matter on its own or hand it over to a central agency. It is clear that the court is looking at this matter seriously. The petitioner has described this as a big issue related to national security and citizenship and termed the court’s decision as “historic”. Now the most important question is that after the FIR is registered, in which direction does the investigation go and what new facts come to light. The political reaction on this entire matter is also likely to intensify.
