BJP leader Dilip Ghosh targeted TMC after Chandrima Bhattacharya’s resignation. He said that a wave of resignations has started in TMC as the party no longer exists. Ghosh also took a dig at Mamata Banerjee’s statement of making the budget on a treadmill.
Kharagpur (West Bengal) [भारत]July 5 (ANI): West Bengal minister Dilip Ghosh on Sunday said a “wave of resignations” has begun within the Trinamool Congress, and alleged that the party “no longer exists.” Speaking on the resignation of Chandrima Bhattacharya, Ghosh questioned her role as a former finance minister and asked why the situation in the state was “serious”. He told reporters, “A wave of resignations has started within the TMC. This trend will continue because in reality her party no longer exists. Chandrima Bhattacharya was the finance minister for so many years; was she unaware of the budget? Was the budget prepared without consulting her? Why did this happen?”
The BJP leader also took a dig at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the preparations for the budget. “Mamata Banerjee used to claim that she prepares the budget while walking on a treadmill. Preparing the budget on a treadmill is madness. That is why the situation in Bengal is so serious. Today, when the party is over, she (Chandrima Bhattacharya) has switched sides and is making such statements. Why did she not raise her voice earlier? People elected you and sent you there. If the work was not being done, why did you not say anything at that time?” he adds.
Reason behind resignation
Ghosh’s comments come after party state unit president and former minister Chandrima Bhattacharya resigned from all party posts on Saturday. After this, Mamata Banerjee took over the post of state president of the party. Chandrima cited former chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s comments as the reason for her resignation, in which she was accused of “handing over” the Trinamool building to the rebel group led by Ritabrata Banerjee.
Bhattacharya told ANI that she was hurt by the party supremo’s remarks. Bhattacharya said, “You saw what happened yesterday. An incident happened at Trinamool Bhawan. After that Mamata ji spoke to me on phone. She told me, ‘You handed over Trinamool Bhawan to her.’ This made me sad. There was no need to say it.”
The resignation comes at a time of high drama in West Bengal politics as the property owner of TMC’s state party office in Kolkata locked the premises from inside following reports that the rebel group had taken over the building.
Kunal Ghosh took aim
Meanwhile, TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh hit out at Chandrima Bhattacharya, calling her “arrogant”. Kunal Ghosh said, “I will speak on this later, not now. Anyone can take any decision, but when Mamata Banerjee was the CM, she (Chandrima Bhattacharya) had the most important ministry (department). Now she is showing arrogance.” (ANI)
