Connor McDavid Returns to Edmonton Lineup for Crucial Game 5 Against Anaheim Ducks

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid will take the ice on Tuesday night for Game 5 against the Anaheim Ducks in their first-round playoff series.

This matchup is critical for Edmonton as they face elimination, trailing the Ducks 3-1 in the best-of-seven series.

Despite not participating in the morning skate prior to the game, McDavid’s presence in the lineup was confirmed by Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch. McDavid, who led the NHL in scoring this season, has been dealing with an ankle injury sustained during Game 2.

Injury Status and Team Dynamics

McDavid, 29, has shown signs of discomfort since rolling his ankle in the second period of Game 2 after colliding with teammate Mattias Ekholm. The Oilers are working to overcome a 3-1 deficit, aiming to prevent elimination after reaching the Stanley Cup final in the previous two seasons.

In addition to McDavid, forward Jason Dickinson was also listed as a game-time decision but is included in the lineup as well. Knoblauch indicated earlier on Tuesday that Connor Ingram would start in goal, replacing Tristan Jarry, who played in Game 4.

Performance Highlights

McDavid, who scored his first goal of the series in Game 3, has had a notable performance with multi-point games in both the third and fourth games of the series. He missed the off-day skate on Saturday in Anaheim, raising concerns about his condition.

Earlier on Tuesday, McDavid received a nomination for the prestigious Ted Lindsay Award, which honors the NHL’s most outstanding player as voted by fellow players. This marks a significant recognition for McDavid, who has won the award four times.

Goaltending Decisions

Ingram returns to the net after Jarry’s 34-save performance in a 4-3 overtime loss in Game 4. Ingram had previously started the first three games of the series, achieving a win in Game 1 but allowing 11 goals in the subsequent losses due to defensive struggles.

Knoblauch expressed confidence in Ingram, stating, “Nothing against Jarry. I thought he had a solid game the other night, but going down this last few weeks or months, Ingram’s been our starter. He’s been our guy. Now that our season’s on the line, we felt that we would go with our guy.”

Dickinson’s Return

Dickinson, who missed the second and third games of the series due to injury, made a significant impact in the opener with two goals and contributed an assist in the Game 4 loss. His return adds depth to the Oilers’ lineup as they seek to extend their playoff run.
