Bhopal. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav held a detailed review meeting of the Science and Technology Department at CM House on June 18. In the meeting he said that science and technology are the most important basis of the future economy. There are vast possibilities for investment in this sector in Madhya Pradesh and concrete efforts should be made to realize them.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to make the state a strong center of knowledge and technology by promoting innovation, research and technological development. He stressed on adopting a coordinated strategy to get investment projects off the ground quickly and attract investors.

Bhopal Gift City Project: Preparation to make Gift City in Bhopal

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav told the officials that on the lines of Gujarat, effective steps should be taken to develop Gift City in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. He said that this project can give the state a new identity in the field of new technology, investment and employment.

It was informed in the meeting that there is a plan to develop the proposed GIFT City in Bhopal as ‘EKAI City-Education, Knowledge and AI City’. This project is likely to get financial assistance of about Rs 10 thousand crore from the Central Government, while the State Government will also invest in it.

Ujjain Center of Excellence: A big center of science, medical and technical education in Ujjain.

The Chief Minister said that work is going on towards establishing Medi City, Science City and Engineering College in Ujjain. In such a situation, a Center of Excellence (CoE) should be developed here for medical, science and technical education. He instructed the officials to work expeditiously in this direction by coordinating with the Central Government. The Chief Minister believes that this center can become a major center of higher education, research and technological innovation in the future.

Deep Tech Research Park: Revised proposal sent to Central Government

In the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary, Urban Development and Housing and Science and Technology Department, Sanjay Dubey informed that the proposal to establish DeepTech Research Park in Ujjain has already been sent to the Central Government. Now under this project, a new action plan will be prepared and a revised proposal will be sent for the establishment of a Center of Excellence. DeepTech Research Park will also be included in this center to be built at a cost of about Rs 400 crore.

Foreign Universities in MP: Increased interest from American universities

It was also informed in the meeting that four prestigious universities of America are interested in setting up their study campuses in Madhya Pradesh. The state government is continuously communicating and coordinating with these institutions so that world class education facilities can be provided in the state.

MP Emerging Tech Hub: Madhya Pradesh’s tech sector is emerging rapidly

Principal Secretary, Science and Technology Department, M. Selvandrum said that Madhya Pradesh is joining the rapidly developing technology hub of the country. At present, 5 IT SEZs, more than 15 IT parks, more than 50 big IT companies and about 1200 tech startups are active in the state. Apart from this, there are more than 300 technical educational institutions, more than 50 thousand technical graduates and institutes of national importance like IIT, IIITDM, IIM and AIIMS are also present.

Startup Policy and Tech Investment: 12,500 crore investment and 50 thousand jobs

Officials said that six major policies are implemented to promote the technical sector in the state. Under MP Startup Policy 2022, investors are being given incentives like capital expenditure assistance and interest subsidy. So far, investment of about Rs 12,500 crore has been received in the technical sector, which has created about 50 thousand employment opportunities.

Special focus on AI, Quantum, Data Center and Semiconductor sectors

Special focus is being given by the Department of Science and Technology to emerging areas like IT-ITeS, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Quantum Technology, Data Centre, ESDM, Semiconductor Design and Packaging, Drone Manufacturing, GCC, AVGC-XR and Space Technology. Officials said that mega investment projects worth about Rs 5,892 crore are in the pipeline in these areas, which will give a new impetus to the technological development of the state in the coming years.
