Mumbai Rain Alert: There is an outcry in Maharashtra due to heavy rains and landslides. Especially the worst situation is in Mumbai, where the entire city has been washed away. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has issued a warning that clouds will burst tomorrow.

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said that all district administrations have been put on high alert amid heavy rains in the state. He also informed that work is going on to repair the Mumbai-Pune Expressway after the damage caused by the landslide.

  • Fadnavis said this after a review meeting held in the disaster control room of the ministry regarding heavy rains and landslides. Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan and many senior officials were also present in this meeting.
  • At a press conference in Mumbai, Fadnavis said that Mumbai Metro and buses are running normally, but there have been some problems in the local railway network.
  • The Chief Minister said, “Today we held a disaster management meeting to take stock of the situation. Mumbai has received a month’s worth of rainfall in just four days. BMC is working continuously to ensure that there is no water logging anywhere. Mumbai Metro train service is running normally, while there are some disruptions on the railway network. Buses are also running normally.”

Don’t go out of the house…clouds will burst

  • The state government has announced work from home for all offices and disaster relief forces have been deployed for rescue operations. The Chief Minister also appealed to the people to remain alert as the IMD has issued a cloudburst alert between Nashik and Trimbakeshwar on July 7.
  • He said, “Yesterday we felt very strong and powerful winds, which we have never seen before. Due to this, about 300 trees fell yesterday. Even today, winds are expected to blow at a speed of 50-70 kilometers per hour in the city. That is why we have announced work from home today and have appealed to people not to come out of their homes today. There is a cloud burst alert in the area between Nashik and Trimbakeshwar for tomorrow. NDRF and SDRF have been deployed again due to the intensity of rain. Efforts are on to reopen Mumbai-Goa Expressway and one lane from Pune to Mumbai.

Landslides occurred in Pune due to heavy rains

  • Heavy rains on Monday led to landslides in the Mumbai-Pune Ghat section, severely affecting rail and road connectivity between the two cities. Large stones fell on the railway tracks, while traffic was also stopped on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old Mumbai-Pune Highway after a major landslide.
  • Maharashtra is on high alert after heavy rains coupled with strong winds are causing floods and landslides at many places.
  • According to Maharashtra CMO, there is red alert in Palghar and Konkan region also for July 7; 500 citizens are being evacuated to safe places in Palghar.
