Buddha Purnima Story
A long time ago, a son was born to King Shuddhodhan of Kapilvastu and Queen Maya Devi. Astrologers predicted that this child would either become a great king or a great saint. The king tried his best to keep him away from the sorrows of the world, but one day Siddhartha went out and saw four scenes, in which an old man, a sick man, a dead body and a monk. These scenes shocked his mind. He understood that suffering is inevitable in life. Then he left the palace and started searching for the truth. After several years of rigorous penance, he attained enlightenment while meditating under a Peepal tree in Bodh Gaya. At that very moment he became Gautam Buddha. He preached the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path to the world, which even today shows the way to make life simple and peaceful.
