Indian Railways has approved installation of Electronic Interlocking (EI) system at 13 stations of Raipur division at a cost of Rs 226 crore. The move will modernize signaling infrastructure and enhance safety in train operations.
New Delhi [भारत]July 1 (ANI): In a major step towards modernizing signaling infrastructure and enhancing operational safety, Indian Railways has approved the provision of Electronic Interlocking (EI) at 13 stations on the Durg-Taroki section of Raipur Division of South East Central Railway (SECR) at a cost of Rs 226 crore.
The project involves replacement of the existing Panel Interlocking (PI) system with Electronic Interlocking (EI) at 13 stations, which will enable safer, more reliable and technology-driven train operations, the Railway Ministry said in a release on Wednesday.
There will be new arrangements at these stations
The sanctioned project involves installation of electronic interlocking at the following stations of Durg-Taroki section of Raipur Division: Maroda (MXA), Risma (RSA), Gunderdehi (GDZ), Latapur (LBO), Balod (BXA), Kusumkasa (KYS), Dalli Rajhara (DRZ), Gudum (GUDM), Bhanupratappur (BPTP), KOT (KETI), Antagarh (AAGH), Taroki. (TDOK) and Raipur Store Depot (RSD).
Security and reliability will increase
This change from panel interlocking to electronic interlocking will significantly modernize the signaling infrastructure on this critical section, improving operational flexibility and system reliability.
According to the Railway Ministry, Electronic Interlocking is a state-of-the-art signaling technology that automates route setting and signaling functions while incorporating advanced safety features. The upgraded system will improve operational efficiency, reduce the likelihood of signaling failures and enable faster restoration during disruptions.
The project will enhance the safety and reliability of train operations, improve punctuality and provide a strong technical base to handle the growing passenger and freight traffic on the South East Central Railway network. The approval is part of Indian Railways’ ongoing program to modernize signaling systems across the national network through advanced technologies, thereby ensuring safer, smarter and more efficient railway operations.
