Altogether five diamonds have been found, whose weight is 1.22 carats. Of these, two diamonds are of ‘gem-quality’ i.e. suitable for making gems, while the remaining three belong to another category. These diamonds were found after scientific examination of about 200 tons of soil and rock samples. These samples were collected from the area where diamonds were likely to be found.

Officials said that potential areas containing diamonds were identified through geophysical survey, drilling and examination of sediments of drains. With this discovery it has been confirmed that diamonds are present in this area. However, experts say that it is too early to say whether mining can be done commercially or on a large scale from here, because only a very small quantity of diamonds have been found. More survey and investigation will be required to know how big the reserves are here, what is the quality of the diamonds and whether mining will be beneficial or not.

State Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has called it a good sign for the mining sector. He said that the government will continue to promote such scientific discoveries. At present, the found diamonds have been sent to NMDC’s secure center in Panna, Madhya Pradesh for further investigation and legal action. Let us tell you that Panna is already famous for diamond mines. For the last few years, exploration was going on in Baloda-Belmundi block to locate new mineral reserves of Chhattisgarh. This new discovery is expected to provide further help in future survey campaigns.
