Allegations of serious irregularities came to light during the voting held on April 29 in Phalta Assembly seat. Complaints of intimidation of voters, presence of outsiders at booths and tampering with EVMs raised questions on the election process. BJP candidate Debangshu Panda claimed that his party’s buttons at one booth were covered with tape. Videos of similar incidents also surfaced at many other booths. Big decision of Election Commission: Order for re-voting

Taking these incidents seriously, the Election Commission of India took a historic decision to hold re-elections in all 285 booths of Phalta seat. This re-polling will take place on May 21, while the counting of votes will be done on May 24. Apart from this, re-voting has also been conducted in 15 booths of West Magrahat and Diamond Harbour. Demand for re-polling at 77 booths, politics heated up

After the incidents during the elections, demand for re-polling was raised at a total of 77 booths, out of which 32 booths were in Phalta alone. This issue has also heated up politics.
