bank holiday

Private and public sector banks in India will remain closed for only one day in the coming week, between May 11 and 17, 2026. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released a list of total nine holidays for all banks this month, which includes State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and other banks. This also includes weekend holidays of second Saturday, fourth Saturday and all Sundays. Unless a specific public or regional holiday is declared, banks are generally open on the first, third and fifth Saturday of every month.

Bank holidays this week: check dates

Since banking is one of the most essential services that people depend on, staying updated about bank holidays in India helps in avoiding delays in completing important branch tasks. There will be only one day of holiday in the coming week. According to the RBI calendar, all banks in the country will remain closed on Sunday, May 17, due to it being a weekend holiday.

Bank holidays may vary from state to state, depending on regional and local customs. Therefore, it is best for users to check the RBI holiday list or check the approved holiday schedule from their local bank branch so that they can be prepared in case of emergencies or long holidays.

As per the guidelines set by RBI, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks remain closed on gazetted public holidays as well as the second and fourth Saturdays of every month and all Sundays across India.

Online banking remains open during holidays

During bank holidays, online banking services are available across the country to ensure uninterrupted access to banking services. Customers can use these services for easy financial transactions.
  2. Anyone can use UPI or the app of the respective bank to make payments and receive money from others. These services work round the clock, whether the banks are open or not.
