New Delhi: Renowned Kannada actor-producer Dileep Raj died at the age of 47 in the early hours of Wednesday after suffering a heart attack. The actor, best known for his role in the Puneeth Rajkumar movie, Milana (2007), suffered a massive heart attack and was rushed to the hospital.

According to family members, he could not survive the heart attack and doctors were not able to revive him. The actor is known for his prominent roles in U-Turn and Boyfriend. He later turned producer and produced TV serials under his banner, DR Creations. He also headlined in the popular Zee Kannada serial, Hitler Kalyana. Apart from the Kannada film industry, he was also active in theatres and was a renowned dubbing artist.
He was actively associated with renowned theatre groups such as Nataranga and Drishti, where he shaped his acting skills. It was during this time that the television actress Nanditha introduced him to the world of television.

His television journey began with Kambada Mane, a telefilm. Later, he bagged the role in the popular serial Janani, where he played the grandson of veteran actress Bharti Vishnuvardhan. Soon, Dileep became a household name through television serials, including Ardha, atya, Kumkuma Bhagya, Preetigaagi, Rangoli, Mangalya, Malebillu, and Rathasapthami, among others.
Over the years, he appeared in more than 24 films but never distanced himself from theatre or television.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
