Guwahati (Assam) [भारत]July 11 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday visited the Bhupen Hazarika Sammandhi Shrine in Jalukbari, Guwahati and paid tribute to the great musician.

According to an official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, he later inspected the ongoing infrastructure development works at the Assam Police Reserve Campus at Paltan Bazar and the Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden.

Bhupen Hazarika Samanvay Teerth will be rejuvenated

During the visit to Bhupen Hazarika Samanvaya Tirtha, the Chief Minister reviewed the facilities at the complex and discussed with officials of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Public Works Department on measures to make the Samanvaya Tirtha a more vibrant cultural centre.

The memorial will be equipped with AR and VR technology

The Chief Minister said that the existing memorial will be suitably redesigned keeping in mind the life, works and legacy of Bhupen Hazarika. He said that advanced technologies like Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) will be used so that visitors can get a digital experience. This includes taking virtual selfies with Hazarika and connecting with her music through interactive platforms.

“Digital technologies will also be used to introduce younger generations to the rich literary and musical legacy of the great artist.” The Chief Minister also said that an open-air stage would be constructed within the Samanvaya Tirtha. “A government committee will also be formed to manage the complex. Apart from organizing programs on the birth and death anniversaries of Bhupen Hazarika, the committee will ensure that there are cultural activities and programs focused on his creations throughout the year to keep the Samanvaya Tirtha alive.”

The work of Police Reserve Campus was also reviewed

Later, the Chief Minister inspected the ongoing redevelopment of Assam Police Reserve Campus at Paltan Bazar. The project, being implemented at an estimated cost of around Rs 600 crore, will provide residential facilities for more than 600 police inspectors, sub-inspectors and constables. The campus will also include a school, a temple, a naamghar, a press conference hall, a playground and the office of the Assam Police Reserve. The CMO said that as part of the project, a separate residential building is also being constructed at Panbazar to house 42 police officers.

Modernization of Assam State Zoo

Sarma also inspected the ongoing modernization works at the Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden. He visited the under-construction veterinary hospital, wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center and museum, and later chaired a review meeting with senior officials of the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Public Works Department in the presence of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Jayant Mallabarua.

During the review, the Chief Minister directed that the veterinary hospital should be developed after taking advice from leading veterinary experts of the country. He also advised the authorities to examine the feasibility of starting an internal train service within the zoo to enhance visitor convenience.

“The Government of Assam is undertaking the modernization of the Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden at an estimated cost of Rs 360 crore. The objective of this project is to modernize the zoo by improving visitor facilities, as well as creating a more natural and friendly habitat for the wildlife.” “About 27 percent of the project work has already been completed.”

The Chief Minister also reviewed the health of three rescued red pandas kept in the zoo. “The red panda was rescued from wildlife smugglers in February this year and later brought to the Assam State Zoo for care and rehabilitation.” (ANI)
