London [यूके]July 19 (ANI): Amid speculations of his retirement from ODI cricket, India’s legendary batsman Rohit Sharma registered his name in the record books as he became the first Indian to score an ODI century at Lord’s. One of the most prolific strikers in white-ball cricket, Sharma achieved the feat during India’s third ODI against England on Sunday. Rohit responded brilliantly and played a memorable innings on one of the biggest stages of cricket.

Rohit broke many records
At the age of 39 years and 80 days, Sharma became the oldest batsman to score an ODI century at Lord’s and the oldest Indian to register an international century at the iconic ground across all formats. He left behind the great Sachin Tendulkar. Sharma now holds the record for most ODI centuries by a visiting batsman in a single country, which includes eight centuries in England. He has been matched only by England’s Joe Root (10) and Marcus Trescothick (8) for most ODI centuries overall.
England had given a huge target of 388 runs
The importance of this innings increased even more as India had to chase a challenging target after England had posted a huge score of 387/3 in their first innings. Earlier, Ben Duckett scored a brilliant 141 and along with Jacob Bethell, who scored 91, stitched a record 192-run opening partnership as England’s batsmen completely dominated the inexperienced Indian fast bowling attack in the absence of injured lead bowler Jasprit Bumrah.
