Kanwar Yatra 2026 has started. Delhi Traffic Police has issued traffic advisory from 29th July to 12th August. Diversion on many major routes, no entry of heavy vehicles and temporary closure on GT Road will remain in force. Know complete information.
Delhi Traffic Police Advisory: Kanwar Yatra 2026 has started from Thursday, July 30 with the holy month of Shravan of Lord Shiva. For the next 13 days, lakhs of Shiva devotees will leave for Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan with Ganga water from Haridwar, Gangotri and Gaumukh. Delhi Traffic Police has issued a detailed advisory for the safety of devotees and to maintain traffic order. Under this, traffic diversion and restrictions on movement of heavy vehicles will remain in force on many major routes from July 29 to August 12.
Why were traffic restrictions implemented during Kanwar Yatra?
According to Delhi Traffic Police (Eastern Range), special traffic management plan has been implemented to ensure safe and uninterrupted journey of Kanwariyas. Police have appealed to the people to know their route before travelling, avoid the affected routes and use alternative routes.
The advisory also states that jams and unnecessary hassles can be avoided by following the instructions of traffic personnel. This arrangement has been made keeping in mind the safety of both devotees and common citizens.

No entry of heavy vehicles on these roads, many routes will be affected
There will be a ban on the entry of Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTVs) on many major routes from 29 July to 12 August 2026. However, city buses are exempted from this ban.
The major routes affected include GT Road (Apsara Border to Yamuna Bridge), Asharam Tyagi Marg (Road No. 66), Wazirabad Road (Bhopura Border to Signature Bridge), Pushta Road (Sonia Vihar to Wazirabad) and Loni Road (Loni Border to Loni Roundabout).
Apart from this, there will be a ban on entry of heavy vehicles from Maharajpur, Apsara/Seemapuri, DLF, Bhopura, Loni and Sonia Vihar borders. Such vehicles will be sent through other alternative routes including Outer Ring Road and NH-9.
GT Road closed from 9th August, no entry of Kanwariyas on Expressway
According to the advisory of Delhi Traffic Police, from 7 am on August 9 to 8 pm on August 12, GT Road from Apsara Border to Yamuna Bridge will be completely closed for normal vehicles. During this period, common vehicle drivers will have to adopt alternative routes.
At the same time, entry of Kanwariyas and Kanwar vehicles on Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will be completely banned.
