One such case is of the barbaric murder of rapist Akku Yadav. This incident took place in Nagpur, Maharashtra. This incident of 2004 continues to go viral even today. This brute had raped and murdered a girl living in a slum. Whenever there was a hearing in the court for 10 years, he used to get bail easily. Earlier, when the girl’s family went to register a rape case against her, the police laughed at them and insulted them. Because of this, the courage of Akku Yadav and his gang had increased. Their job had become to harass the women of the area, extort money from people by threatening them and molest girls. This savage did not spare even small girls. Anyone who opposed this gang was murdered and the body was thrown on the railway track. When public pressure increased, the police would pretend to arrest him, but he would repeatedly come out on bail and his terror would begin again.

The rapist had received protection from the police. The women decided that they would no longer remain silent. During the hearing of a case, when the police was taking Akku to the court, 200 women made their plan. On 13 August 2004, at 3 pm, a crowd of women gathered there threw chilli powder on his face and started pelting stones. Even the police could not control the crowd and ran away from there. The women took off his pants, cut his private parts and attacked him countless times with knives. These women had completed the calculation of decades of pain in just 15 minutes!

After the murder, these women themselves went to the police and said, ‘Come on, we are murderers, arrest us’. Even the police got scared after seeing them. After Akku’s death, the entire society stood in one voice in support of these women. Lawyers also raised their voice that these women should not be made accused. Later, the court also, understanding the seriousness of the case, gave its verdict after years and acquitted all the women.
