A similar scene was seen in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, when Prime Minister Modi described Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav as his “friend” and said that he sometimes even helps him. There was laughter in the House on this statement and Akhilesh Yadav himself was seen smiling.
Light moment amid heated debate in special session
Important issues like Women’s Reservation Bill and delimitation are being discussed in the special session of Parliament starting from April 16. During this period, sharp reactions also emerged from the opposition. Congress alleged that the government was tampering with the Constitution, while Akhilesh Yadav made his point by linking women’s reservation to PDA (Backward, Dalit, Minority) politics.

“The Constitution is paramount for me”
PM Modi said in his address that he comes from a very backward society, but it is his responsibility to take the entire country along. He said that the responsibility he has got is because of the strength of the Constitution and for him the Constitution is supreme.

In the middle of his speech, when PM Modi said that “Akhilesh ji is my friend and sometimes helps”, the atmosphere in the House suddenly became lighter. Akhilesh Yadav also laughed at this comment and the political tension seemed to be reducing for some time.
What did PM Modi say on women’s reservation?
Regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill, the Prime Minister said that developed India does not just mean infrastructure. He stressed that participation of half the country’s population i.e. women in policy making is necessary. He also acknowledged that the decision had already been delayed and should not be postponed any longer.

PM Modi said that it is a fortunate opportunity for all the members of Parliament that they are opening the way to involve the women of the country in policy making. He appealed to all the parties to see this opportunity rising above politics.

The Prime Minister also gave a message to those parties which are opposing women’s reservation. He said that history is witness to the fact that those who opposed women’s rights have suffered losses in elections.
“Don’t do politics, this is for democracy”
PM Modi clearly said that this bill should not be seen from a political perspective. According to him, this decision is not for any one party, but to strengthen the democracy of the entire country.
“Ready to give a blank check of credit”
Giving a kind of open offer to the opposition, the Prime Minister said that if anyone feels that they have political advantage in this bill, then they are ready to take full credit. He said, “We will thank everyone by giving advertisements, we will get everyone’s photos printed, we do not want credit.”
