Four RPF jawans have been suspended after the video of the assault on the Deputy Station Superintendent (DSS) at Agra Cantt station surfaced. All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) has strongly condemned the incident and demanded action against the culprits.
New Delhi [भारत]July 15 (ANI): The All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) has condemned the physical assault and alleged misbehavior of Deputy Station Superintendent (DSS) Narendra Singh Chahar at Agra Cantt railway station. The incident occurred while he was performing his official duties in the interest of passenger safety.
AIRF said that instead of appreciating this exemplary act of dedication and passenger service, some RPF personnel allegedly argued with the Deputy Station Superintendent over temporarily stopping the train.
North Central Railway (NCR) has suspended four Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, including 2 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI), with immediate effect after a video of a Deputy Station Superintendent (Dy SS) being assaulted by RPF personnel at Agra Cantt railway station surfaced online.
AIRF expressed serious concern
Expressing serious concern over the incident, AIRF General Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra said, “Railway employees, irrespective of the department they belong to, are expected to work as a team with mutual respect, coordination and professionalism. Any act of intimidation, abuse or physical assault against an employee in the performance of his duties is unacceptable and deserves strict disciplinary and legal action.”
He further said, “Such incidents not only demoralize the employees but also adversely affect the culture of teamwork, which is essential for the safe and efficient operation of Indian Railways.”
Federation demands fair investigation
The Federation stressed that railway staff are duty bound to provide all possible assistance to passengers, especially in situations relating to their safety and welfare. Punishing or intimidating employees for discharging such humanitarian responsibilities sends a very discouraging message to the entire railway fraternity and undermines public confidence in the railway system.
AIRF has urged the Chairman and CEO of Railway Board to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident and ensure that if the allegations are proved, strict action is taken against all those responsible.
The Federation has also requested the Railway Board to issue comprehensive instructions to all zonal railways and production units to strengthen inter-departmental coordination, promote mutual respect among railway employees and prevent recurrence of such unfortunate incidents. (ANI)
