International Criminal Court Controversy: America, China and Russia can make a joint strategy against the International Criminal Court (ICC). After the discussion between Trump and Xi Jinping, the turmoil in global politics has intensified. A new debate has erupted regarding ICC’s warrant and action against big leaders.
America, China and Russia, counted among the world’s biggest powers, seem to be coming closer on an issue which has sparked a new debate in global diplomacy. According to reports, strategic discussions have started between these countries regarding the increasing influence of the International Criminal Court (ICC). It is being told that during the recent visit to Beijing, an important conversation took place between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping regarding ICC. After this discussion, the question has become acute in international politics whether the three big powers of the world can now form a common front against the International Criminal Court?
Trump indicated a strong alliance
According to reports, Donald Trump told Xi Jinping that it would be in our common interest to build a “strong coalition” of three countries against the ICC. It is believed that China can now also talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin on this subject. Interestingly, America, China and Russia are often considered rivals in global politics. Despite this, the stance of the three countries regarding ICC appears to be similar in many respects.

After all, why are the big powers angry with the ICC?
America has been raising questions on the functioning of the International Criminal Court for a long time. After becoming President, Donald Trump had also imposed sanctions on some ICC judges. Trump has called this court “unnecessary” on several occasions. Experts believe that after the ICC issued warrants against big global leaders, uneasiness has increased in many powerful countries. Especially when the court took action in cases related to Russia and Israel.
What is International Criminal Court?
International Criminal Court i.e. ICC was established in July 2002 under the Rome Statute. Its headquarters is located in The Hague, Netherlands. This court investigates and hears cases involving genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and serious international crimes. The ICC can intervene when a country’s national courts fail to act. At present 124 countries of the world are part of ICC. However, big countries like America, Russia, China and India have refused to participate in it.
Warrants have been issued against big leaders
ICC has already issued warrants against many big global leaders. This court came into more discussion around the world after the warrant was issued against Russian President Vladimir Putin in the year 2023. Apart from this, ICC has also taken action against Benjamin Netanyahu. The arrest of the former President of the Philippines was also done on the basis of the warrant of the International Court. Till now ICC has issued warrants against more than 40 big leaders and officials. However, since the court does not have its own police force, it becomes challenging to implement the judgments in many cases.
What will be the impact on global politics?
If America, China and Russia move forward on a joint strategy against the ICC, it could prove to be a major turning point for the international justice system. This may spark a new debate about the role of global institutions, their legitimacy and influence. Experts believe that in the coming times this issue can become not only legal but also a major center of global power balance and diplomatic influence.
