2800 new electric buses will come to Delhi

The Delhi government has decided to induct 2,800 new AC low-floor electric buses in the national capital under the first phase of the PM e-Drive scheme. It is expected that these buses will start running from next year. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the initiative aims to reduce pollution and further strengthen Delhi’s public transport system.

The Delhi government also plans to increase its public transport fleet to around 14,000 buses by 2028-29. The move is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen public transport infrastructure and reduce pollution in the capital.

New bus route started for the convenience of passengers

Earlier in July, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) had launched the bus service, Route 753 Extension, on an experimental basis to cater to the needs of commuters in several residential areas of Central Delhi and West Delhi.

An official statement said the new route will provide residents of Janakpuri, Vikaspuri, Hastsal, Shiv Vihar, Uttam Nagar, Hari Nagar and surrounding areas with direct bus connectivity to Mori Gate, Kashmere Gate, Old Delhi Railway Station and New Delhi Railway Station.

Emphasis on improving public transport

Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the launch of the new route reflects the government’s commitment to make public transport more accessible and passenger-friendly. The minister said that the Delhi government under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is continuously expanding public transport services to ensure that residents get a safe, convenient and citizen-centric transport system.

PMO advisor Tarun Kapoor had also said that promoting electric vehicles across the country is essential to reduce India’s dependence on imported oil and will require joint efforts of the Centre, state governments and the industry. “We want to promote electric vehicles across the country. All stakeholders, be it state governments or industry, have an important role to play in this. We want to reduce our dependence on imported oil,” he said. (ANI)
