New Delhi: Flight operations to Kathmandu were hit on Monday amid widespread protests in the Nepalese capital, where demonstrations by Gen Z over a social media ban spiralled into a larger anti-corruption movement.
Two IndiGo flights—6E1153 from Delhi and 6E1157 from Mumbai—bound for Tribhuvan International Airport were denied landing clearance and diverted to Lucknow. After refuelling, both aircraft will return to their origin cities, as no operations to Kathmandu are being conducted today, the airline confirmed.
Air India also cancelled several flights on the Delhi–Kathmandu–Delhi route. In a statement, the airline said services AI2231/2232, AI2219/2220, AI217/218 and AI211/212 have been suspended for the day.
“In view of the current situation prevailing in Kathmandu, our priority is the safety of passengers and crew. We are closely monitoring developments and will provide further updates,” Air India said.
