Effect of wrong eating habits on teeth
Yellowing of teeth can be caused not only by wrong eating habits but also by unhealthy eating habits. Often drinking dark colored drinks like tea, coffee, cola, red wine causes the pigments to stick to the top layer (enamel) of the teeth and make the teeth yellow with time. Apart from this, if you also take an unbalanced diet, it also affects our teeth. Actually, consumption of excessively acidic or processed foods damages the enamel of teeth. Due to which the yellow layer below (dentin) becomes more visible and the color of the teeth starts appearing yellow.

Scientific reasons for yellowing of teeth
According to PubMed, yellowing of teeth is not only due to wrong eating habits, but there are two types of reasons for it. External and internal:
Extrinsic stains: When we repeatedly drink tea, coffee, cold drinks, red wine or consume tobacco and cigarettes, their colors and chemicals stick to the top layer of the teeth. Gradually, if this layer is not removed, the teeth start appearing yellow or brown. These are the same stains that appear externally and can be removed to a great extent with proper cleaning or dental treatment.
Intrinsic factors: Some reasons are related to the inside of the teeth. Such as, the color of the dentin present inside the teeth, the effect of some medicines (like tetracycline) in childhood, some diseases of the body or the thinning of the top white layer (enamel) of the teeth with increasing age. When the enamel becomes thin, the yellow layer below becomes more visible, causing the teeth to appear yellow.
