The statement released on Instagram read, “With profound grief and deep condolences, the Sagar family is saddened to announce the demise of their beloved father Shri Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra, who passed away peacefully today, 13 February 2026. Son of the great Ramanand Sagar, the creator of the original 1987 TV series Ramayan, Anand Ji was part of the second generation of management of Sagar Arts. Full of affection, dignity and values, Shri Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra “Touched the lives of many with his kindness, intelligence and gentle nature.”
Anand’s funeral
“He will always be remembered by his family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. The funeral ceremony will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 4:30 PM at Hindu Cremation Ground (Pawan Hans), Mumbai,” it further said. Ramesh Sippy and Bhagyashree paid their last tribute to him.
About Anand’s career and family
Anand was one of the five children of Ramanand and Lilavati Sagar. He belonged to the second generation of Sagar Arts production house. He directed and produced several popular projects, including the 2008 remake of Ramayana. Apart from this, he also produced many other shows including Alif Laila (1993).
