New Delhi: In a tragic incident, an IT engineer from Pune allegedly ended his life by jumping into the 250-foot-deep gorge at Lonavala’s famous Lions Point. Before taking his life, the engineer emailed his wife.
Virendra Sinha, a 32-year-old engineer working in an IT company in Baner, Pune, died by suicide by jumping into a 250-feet deep gorge at Lions Point, a well-known tourist spot in Lonavala, near Mumbai. The incident came to light when his car was found abandoned near Lions Point on Thursday early morning.
Sinha sent emails to his wife, friends
The police found his abandoned car, and after tracing the registration details, Sinha was confirmed as the vehicle’s owner. When officers searched the surrounding area, Sinha could not be found. The police suspected he may have fallen or jumped into the gorge.
It is being told that before taking the extreme step, Virendra had sent emails and messages to his wife and friends. In the emails, Sinha hinted at his severe mental stress and also indicated that he was considering drastic action. The messages concerned his family and friends, but those were discovered only after the incident had occurred.
Demand for increased security
Lonavala Rural Police and Shivdurg Rescue Team conducted a joint search operation and retrieved the body from about 250 feet below. Volunteers of Maval Wildlife Protection Organisation also played an important role in this challenging rescue operation.
In view of the increasing incidents of suicide at Lions Point, questions are now being raised about the security arrangements of the administration. The local unit of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has demanded that authorities increase safety measures at Lions Point. The police are probing the incident to find out the exact cause behind the tragic step.
