New Delhi: A day after a biker lost his life after falling into a deep and uncovered pit in the national capital, the Delhi Police on Saturday arrested sub-contractor Rajesh Prajapati in connection with the case. The pit was reportedly dug by the Delhi Jal Board during road work in the Janakpuri area.

Sharing details, the police said that Prajapati was informed of the accident at night, but he did nothing to save the motorist. The probe revealed that a family was passing by at the time of the accident. After the incident, the family informed a security guard at around 12:20 AM.
After being informed of the accident, Prajapati reached the site but did not check the pit, news agency ANI reported. As per the police, Prajapati saw the fallen biker inside the pit but did nothing to help him. Instead, he left the site. The police is likely to take more people in custody.
The FIR in the case said that the incident took place in B3B Block in Janakpuri, near the Andhra School. It added that there was no warning signs, barricades, reflectors, or proper lighting arrangements at the site, nor any security guard deployed. The FIR added that the pit was left open in the middle of the road.
After reaching the spot, the police found a man lying inside the pit alongside his bike, inside a pit measuring about 20 feet in length, 13 feet in width, and around 14 feet in depth. The pit was dug as a part of ongoing work.
What Delhi Police FIR says
The man was shifted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for treatment, but he was declared dead. The FIR, quoting the medical report, stated, “Patient was brought to ER in an unconscious and unresponsive state with an alleged history of being found roadside near Joginder Singh Marg at around 08:00 am. Injury details include a grazed abrasion over the epigastric region, and the patient was brought in dead.”
