Mumbai (Maharashtra) [भारत]June 30 (ANI): Veteran actor Annu Kapoor recalled his four-decade-long journey in the entertainment industry and thanked the people who helped him in the initial years of his career. Speaking to ANI after completing 44 years in the industry, Kapoor recalled the support he received from his elder brother Ranjit Kapoor, filmmaker Prakash Jha and the Azmi family.

These people helped in the initial days

Recalling the beginning of his journey and the people who supported him, Kapoor said, “First of all, the people who took me here, my elder brother Ranjit Kapoor, I got a message from him from Delhi. And that message was given to me by Prakash Jha. When I called him, he said, go, Ranjit has called you.”

He further explained how his elder brother became a bridge to his early opportunities in theatre. “So, my elder brother, Ranjit Kapoor, I came here because of him. Of course, he became a bridge. And he did a play here, in which the great, now late Om Puri and I acted. It was called ‘An Enemy of the People’, which was written by Henrik Ibsen. And here is Ranjit Kapoor, my elder brother. Because of him, I got a chance to meet him, I got to know him, and he became a part of me. I am very fond of him too Grateful, and then there’s the Azmi family,” Kapoor said.

The actor also paid tribute to late Shaukat Kaifi, remembering the affection and encouragement he received from him in his early days. “First of all, I would like to take the name of late Shaukat Kaifi, also known as Shaukat Azmi, who loved and blessed me a lot. And even then, she supported me. I used to call her Ammi. She is Shabana Azmi’s mother. Today, she is no more in this world. May her soul rest in peace. I am grateful to Shabana Azmi, her father, her brother,” he said.

Annu Kapoor’s upcoming film

Talking about the work front, Annu Kapoor will next be seen in the comedy film ‘Uttar Da Puttar’. The makers have released the poster of the film, which shows Kapoor sitting on a toilet atop a giant Vaastu-inspired wheel, hinting at the film’s unique concept.

Directed by Ravinder Siwach and based on a story by producer Sandeep Kapoor, ‘Uttar Da Puttar’ revolves around the idea that finding the “right direction” in life through Vaastu can improve one’s fortunes. The film also stars Rukhsar Rehman, Brijendra Kala, Pawan Malhotra, Ishtiaq Khan, Jiveshu Ahluwalia, Rajendra Sethi, Sumit Gulati and Nitin Arora. ‘Uttar Da Puttar’ is scheduled to release in theaters worldwide on July 24, 2026.
