Actor Karthi’s comments about actress Malavika Mohanan’s Character at the Sardar 2 trailer launch have sparked huge criticism on social media.
Speaking at the event, Karthi said that when Malavika Mohanan’s name was announced as the heroine, he asked the team whether Malavika would wear glamorous costumes similar to actress Monica Bellucci. Karthi said he asked it not for his enjoyment, but he had asked for audience sake and their entertainment. While Karthi made these comments in funny tone, many felt he crossed the line.
Karthi’s comments did not go down well with many netizens. Some feminists and social media users have criticised Karthi’s double-meaning statements, saying that it objectifies women and her body. Instead of actress’s performance, Karthi’s comments highlighted heroine’s appearance. These exactly got backlash from the critics.
Karthi also spoke about why he chose to do Sardar 2. He said his fans enjoy action films and that he made the sequel to entertain them. He also thanked his fans for their continuous support over the years.
Sardar 2 is written and directed by PS Mithran. The film also stars Malavika Mohanan, SJ Suryah, Ashika Ranganath, Rajisha Vijayan Yogi Babu and others.
While the film has generated interest among action movie fans, Karthi’s comments about Malavika have now become a talking point ahead of the release, September 10.
