Bengaluru (Karnataka) [भारत]June 30 (ANI): Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar urged people across the state to actively participate in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists starting today. He appealed to the citizens to complete this process to protect their franchise.
CM Shivkumar’s appeal- ‘Save your vote’
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Shivakumar stressed the importance of the voter verification exercise and called on citizens to cooperate with election officials by providing necessary information and documents.
Shivakumar said, “SIR will start from tomorrow, entire India and Karnataka are eyeing Karnataka… I appeal to everyone, please save your vote, save your life, right to vote, right to live, Karnataka government will support your vote. Officials will give counting forms, they will ask for information, everyone should give a new photo.”
“Representatives of various parties will also help in providing the necessary information,” he said, adding, “Form Six is available for those who have completed 18 years of age. The information sought by the election authorities will be asked from new voters.”
The Chief Minister said that help desk and booth level arrangements have been made to facilitate this exercise. He warned that voters who fail to submit the enumeration forms within the stipulated period may lose their voting rights. “Election Commission, government, booth level arrangements have been made at polling booths, voting booths. Help desks have been set up. If the counting form is not filled, you will lose the right to vote… We have issued a special order. Verification of permanent residence certificate should be done for each household. It should be downloaded online.”
It is noteworthy that special in-depth revision is to be done between June 30 and July 29.
Congress also started awareness campaign
Earlier, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president BK Hariprasad had announced that the party has launched a statewide awareness campaign to ensure that eligible voters, especially those from rural and economically weaker sections, complete the SIR process.
Hariprasad said the Congress has appointed observers in districts and taluks to spread awareness and assist voters in submitting their counting forms to booth level officers (BLOs). He alleged that the BJP was attempting to disenfranchise poor voters through the vetting exercise, a charge strongly opposed by the Congress. (ANI)
