A case of a new type of fraud in Kolkata in the name of online food delivery app Zomato is going viral on social media. ‘First kept, then took away’

A customer named Sumit Chakraborty, resident of Kolkata, has shared his bad experience with CCTV footage. The incident took place on June 20 at around 10:40 pm. The agent reached the gate of Sumit’s house to deliver the food ordered through the app. After this he placed the food near the gate and took a photo with his mobile to show that the delivery has been made to the customer. Many delivery apps require you to upload a photo to prove to the company that the food has been delivered to the right place. Immediately after taking the photo, the agent marked ‘order delivered’ in the app, picked up the food packet kept there, placed it on his scooter and drove away. The home security camera footage released by Sumit Chakraborty completely proves the ‘delivery proof’ given in the Zomato app to be false.

CCTV exposed

As soon as the customer exposed this fraud with CCTV footage, tremendous reactions started coming from people on the internet. Many people are calling this a ‘new method of fraud’ in the world of online food delivery. This type of fraud is being done under the guise of contactless delivery, in which the delivery person leaves the food at the door or gate without directly meeting the customer. The customers have demanded that they get their money back and a proper investigation be conducted against the delivery agent. There is also a demand on social media that to prevent such frauds, security measures like OTP verification while placing orders should be made more stringent.
