Southwest Monsoon Progress: The South-West Monsoon maintained its pace and covered many more parts of the country on Tuesday, June 23. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon has now reached the rest of the central Arabian Sea as well as many areas of Maharashtra including Mumbai, rest of Telangana and Odisha. Apart from this, monsoon has also knocked in some other areas of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar. With the continuous advance of monsoon, rainfall activities are expected to intensify in many states.

IMD released latest monsoon status

According to the Meteorological Department, till June 23, the Northern Limit of Monsoon is passing through 20° North Latitude/60° East Longitude, 20° North Latitude/65° East Longitude, 20° North Latitude/70° East Longitude, Dahanu, Wardha, Raipur, Daltonganj, Motihari and 28.3° North Latitude/83° East Longitude. This shows that the monsoon is continuously advancing over the central and eastern parts of the country and may soon enter new areas as well.

Monsoon will advance further in the next 2-3 days

IMD has said that weather conditions remain favorable for further advance of monsoon during the next two to three days. During this period, there is a possibility of monsoon reaching North Arabian Sea and some parts of Gujarat. Apart from this, monsoon may advance in remaining areas of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh as well as some parts of Madhya Pradesh. The Meteorological Department believes that the current conditions are quite favorable for the progress of monsoon.

Knock soon in rest of UP-Bihar and Jharkhand

According to the estimates of the Meteorological Department, after this, monsoon may reach the remaining areas of Jharkhand and Bihar within the next three to four days. Also, there is a possibility of south-west monsoon entering some parts of Uttar Pradesh. If monsoon continues to progress at this pace, rainfall activities may soon increase in many areas of North India.

Increase in rain will provide relief from heat

According to IMD, the extent of rainfall will increase in different parts of the country with the progress of monsoon. This is expected to provide relief to people from the scorching heat. Besides, the agriculture sector will also benefit from it. Good rains will speed up the sowing of Kharif crops and farmers will get better conditions for farming. This speed of monsoon is being considered a positive sign for both agriculture and water resources.
