New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday paid tribute to Bharatiya Jan Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on his death anniversary. He said the abrogation of Article 370 was the “biggest tribute” given to him. Speaking at an event in the capital, Gupta said the formation of a nationalist government in West Bengal was the second biggest tribute to Mukherjee’s legacy.

  • The Chief Minister said, “The abrogation of Article 370 was the biggest floral tribute at his feet; the second such tribute was paid on the day we formed a nationalist party government in Bengal. The Delhi government will also move forward on the path and guidance shown by respected Shyama Prasad Mukherjee ji and will continuously work for public welfare and national interest.”
  • Union Minister and Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra also paid tribute to Mukherjee and praised his contribution to the nationalist movement and the ideological foundation of the BJP. Malhotra said, “Today is the death anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee. The person who not only instilled the spirit of ‘Nation First’ in the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, but also lit the flame of nationalism in the entire country and laid the foundation of the core ideology of the BJP. On this occasion, we all paid floral tributes to him.”
  • Union Minister Harsh Malhotra, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi Cabinet members and BJP leaders paid floral tributes to Syama Prasad Mukherjee on his death anniversary. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to Bharatiya Jan Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mukherjee on his 73rd death anniversary. The PM recalled his “unwavering faith and courage” in public life and his commitment to the national interest, which has inspired future generations.

In an ex-post, PM Modi reiterated his commitment to building a developed India, calling Syama Prasad Mukherjee an inspiration for generations. The Prime Minister wrote, “On his martyrdom day, I pay tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee. He was a distinguished patriot, scholar and statesman who dedicated his life to the development of India. His unwavering faith in public life, courage and commitment to the national interest will continue to inspire generations. Dr. Mukherjee’s sacrifice is imprinted in our collective memory. We reiterate our commitment to building a strong and developed India, guided by the values that he cherished till his last breath and Fulfilled.” Jan Sangh was the political predecessor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The party observes Mukherjee’s death anniversary as ‘Sacrifice Day’ since he died in Kashmir on June 23, 1953.
