IRCTC Scam Lalu Yadav Family: The troubles of Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family are going to increase before the Bihar Assembly elections. In fact, on Monday, October 13, the Rouse Avenue Court, considering Lalu Yadav, wife Rabri Devi and son Tejashwi Yadav as accused, has given its verdict regarding framing of charges against these three in the IRCTC scam and Land for Job case. What is IRCTC scam?
The IRCTC scam is a high-profile corruption case involving former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, son Tejashwi Yadav and several others. It has been alleged in the case that during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure as Railway Minister (2004-2009), tenders for two hotels of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) were fraudulently given to a private company in exchange for valuable land in Patna at a price much lower than the market price. According to court and CBI records, the Lalu family allegedly got this land in return for rigging the tender process in favor of Sujata Hotels Private Limited. Let us tell you that the court considered this to be a matter of misuse of position and tampering in the tender process and said that all this happened with the knowledge of Lalu Yadav. The court said that there was a conspiracy to give the land rights to Rabri and Tejashwi.

What happened in IRCTC case?
The scam pertains to the tender process for maintenance and operation of BNR hotels in Ranchi and Puri. CBI alleges that the tender was rigged so that Sujata Hotels Private Limited wins. In return, valuable land in Patna was transferred to companies linked to Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family at throwaway prices.
Which judge gave the verdict in IRCTC case?
Judge Vishal Gogane of CBI Court of Rouse Avenue Court gave the verdict in the IRCTC case. Lalu Yadav reached the court in a wheelchair. Chargesheet has been filed in the court against Lalu-Tejashwi and other accused under sections 120B, 420 of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
IRCTC scam is different from Land for Jobs
The IRCTC scam is separate from the “Land for Jobs” scam, but both involve allegations of unfair favor-seeking during Lalu Yadav’s tenure. The alleged irregularities center on awarding of contracts and personal gains through low-value land transactions linked to government deals.
